One of the best things about offering Ice baths on the Gold Coast classes and workshops is hearing the personal benefits that the participants feel and the positive impact that it has. Hear from our regular Gold Coast Ice bath veterans Kate Simpson on why she chooses to join in every month.
- What made you decide to want to try an ice bath?
It sounds cliché, but my goal for 2021 was to do more things that made me uncomfortable. I saw Dani’s Community ice bath sessions and decided this would put me to the test and push me outside of my comfort zone, but I was ready for the challenge.
- How do you feel when you are in the ice bath?
How I feel during an ice bath is not easy to put into words and is something perhaps only understood by someone who has done it themselves, as it is like no other experience. Although the first 10 seconds are a shock to the system, once I can slow my breathing a wave of calmness follows. The remainder of the ice bath I feel calm and at peace, allowing me to breathe through any moments of discomfort/uncomfortableness.
- How do you feel when you get out of the ice bath?
Once I am out of the ice bath, I feel energized, alive, and ready to take on the day. On a regular day, no matter how much sleep I have or caffeine I consume, I still do not feel as energized as I do once I have done an ice bath. It is my favourite day of the month!
- What have you noticed has changed/improved since you have been doing the ice baths?
While I didn’t necessarily think that I would see changes in my day-to-day life after doing ice baths, upon reflection I can see how they have positively impacted my approach to daily tasks. When stressed or overwhelmed I now find myself slowing down, tuning in to my breath and spend a few minutes focusing on intentional breathing (slow, deep etc).
- What would you say to some one thinking about doing an ice bath for the first time?
While challenging at the beginning it is 100% worth the few short moments of discomfort (mentally and physically)! Each time I do an ice bath I find it easier, but also a valuable experience each time. I have introduced my skeptical friends to ice baths, and they too now love them and appreciate the challenge and the reward that come with them.
- Any other comments about your experience ?
More specifically, I attribute my newfound love for ice baths to Dani I was very nervous for my first ice bath and Dani was the perfect coach to guide me through the process. Her calming presence and encouraging words kept me in the ice for the whole 2 minutes, something I didn’t think I would be able to do initially! I truly look forward to doing an ice bath with Dani, knowing I am going to leave not only more energized, but centered and ready to take on the day.
