“We live in a world that celebrates work and activity and ignores renewal and recovery” Jim Loehr.
We are surrounded by a world of excess and instant gratification via technology, marketing and advertising, social media. We spend time racing around trying to fit everything in. We are:
- Rushing to work
- Rushing to the gym
- Rushing to a social gathering
- Rushing to bed to try and get enough sleep
The Yin and Yang symbol is a great way to look at life, trying to find that perfect balance.
Yang is the more energized and fast paced of the two symbols which everyone in society does well. Rest and recovery is just as important as getting in that high intensity workout whether it be in the form of :
- Qi Gong
- Tai Chi
It is important to include either of these into your weekly routine as they teach you to calm the mind and focus on your breath which will help you tackle daily life stresses that may surface.
We get into the habit of beating ourselves up “I need to go and smash myself at the gym even though I’m stiff and tight” It is essential to provide your body with love so sometimes you just need a slow and relaxing session.
Make sure that you start to tune in with your body and listen to what it needs. Remember we only get one body in our lifetime so cherish it and treat it well.
Try these 4 Simple yoga exercises in the comfort of your own home. Hold each pose for approx. 30-45 seconds and repeat 3 times.

After you have completed these exercises perform a cervasana at the end of those exercises which is you lying down on the floor flat on your back and just focusing on your breath and this will help you to slow down your mind and de-stress.Tags: exercise, recovery, rest, yang, yin, Yoga
